My First Of Three Children Essay - 1110 Words
I was born in Islamabad, Pakistan in 1995, the first of three children. Now just because I was born in Pakistan, that doesnââ¬â¢t make me ââ¬Å"Pakiâ⬠. My mother had given me her Persian heritage whereas my father had passed down his Kurdish background. It wasnââ¬â¢t until the year of 1999 that my parents immigrated to the U.S. At that time, it was just my folks and my little brother living in some cheap apartment in Herndon, VA. After a few short years my younger sister popped into our lives. Fast forward a quick nine years we found ourselves on the freeway moving to a nice little city called Harrisonburg, which was still in VA. My mother spoke Farsi as opposed to my father who spoke Farsi and Kurdish. I never managed to pick up the Kurdish language however was able to learn Farsi. Despite the fact that my Farci was spoken similar to that of a third graders, it was understandable nonetheless. It never really bothered me that I was barely able to string together three basic sentences until all the relatives called from back home, my mom would pass over the phone and I would just mumble back words that I thought were correct for the sake of trying not to embarrass myself. I donââ¬â¢t ever recall having to learn to speak the English language, as far as I can remember I always spoke it. I donââ¬â¢t mean to make it sound as if I one day walked into a WalMart and asked where I would be able to find the home and living section, it was more like English and I just clicked.
